Leadership is...

Leadership is the process of influencing others. This is a very effective way of leadership is to influence. Without the power of influence, people would sit around and do nothing all day. I believe that leadership is such a key ability that people should always know how and when to use it. There is always a time and a place for leadership and someone should always be prepared to influence the people around them, in a good way of course. I have learned so much from this class and i really enjoyed being a part of it!

Attitude

Attitude is one of the most important influencers when it comes to accomplishing a group task. It helps keep the group motivated and continually pushing to get better at the goal at hand. Someone with a really good attitude that is in my life is my mother. She always stays positive about something that is at hand, no matter how bad it might be, she always looks at the bright side and gets the goal done. She is a really good role model for attitude. "Our Attitudes are Our Most Important Assets" is a really good quote because it is so true. Without a good attitude our ability to do something means nothing. Attitude is the key to everything.

Team Development

A good team is one that works together. One that is almost like a family with one another. That they can trust and rely on anyone on that team. That everyone is accountable for their actions and they are responsible with their task. A team gets better by always working together, and not individually, they must always be improving. A team is successful by always improving, a team gets better and is successful together, the two are always interchangeable. One can always turn an unsuccessful team into a successful team by doing bonding drills. By building trust with one another and learning to accountable and responsible.

Self-Discipline

The five areas that I believe that I lack in my life are that sometimes I don't eat like I'm supposed to, sometimes I do not go to bed when I should, sometimes I do not do all my homework, sometimes I play video games instead of doing my homework, sometimes I do not dedicate myself 100 percent to practice. I could most likely improve all of these if I kept my life a little bit more organized and I set priorities for myself. It would also be helpful for football if I set goals or something to that extent. In my life there are many people who have great self-discipline. One of those people is my Dad. He always gets up at 5 in the morning works out and has a healthy breakfast. He also strives to succeed in his job and always does what he supposed to do. I think I am accountable for myself and all of the actions that I do. I think I am accountable to many people, because a lot of people can ask me to do stuff and I do it most of the time.

Mission Statement

Say my feelings

The University of Oklahoma's mission statement is "The mission of the University of Oklahoma is to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the state and society." I believe that I am doing my part to complete this mission statement. I try to pass on any knowledge I can which I believe is teaching, my research that I try to do is through the classroom and I am working everyday on my creative activity. As for service to state and society I do my best. Whenever there is an election, I vote which I believe is a service to the state, and I am a part of the OU green team, which is to better serve the environment which is part of the society. As for OU I believe they are doing whatever it takes to accomplish this mission statement. There is always something going on that has to do with the mission statement. As for the staff, they always do their best to pass on their knowledge. I love OU and they continual work hard, I'm not saying anything needs to change, but nothing is perfect and I believe the University already knows this, which is why it continually improves.

I met Cordell Cunningham today in the leadership convention. Cordell is the director of African American Activities. He is a very nice man and he has alot of information. For example he told that he used to work over at the Sooner Housing Center, which is where I currently live. He also said that he implemented the security system that is still used today at the center. He also told me that he used to work up at the Varsity-O club. He is a very interesting man and I believe I can learn alot from him.

Interview

Mickey Tettleton

I interviewed Mickey because I want to be a professional athlete and I believe that requires a lot of leadership in the field. Mickey was a professional baseball player and played for a multitude of teams through his career. He said "that sometimes you get down on yourself when you having a bad game, and that's when you must rely on your teammates to pick you up, and you know they expect the same from you". This is a great example of leadership in the field. That to be a good leader sometimes you need people to pick you up too. That it's not always about leading all the time but it is also good to be a great follower. "Being part of such a great thing like the MLB is such a blessing, and I am so grateful for where I am right now" This is also a sign of a great leader is the modesty that he shows. Mickey is a great leader on and off the field, and I aspire to be like him.

Problem vs Challenges

I learned about the importance of teamwork. Without teamwork with each other that excercise would be alot harder because people would forget the steps that they took. This is really applicable to every day student because without people around you, you would get lost more easily. Buzz Becker and Holly Berrigan were the people that I met and they were part of the lead team, they are some really really cool people. An experience that I have had that is a problem turned into a challenge is that I once wanted to gain weight, but i realized that this isnt a problem, but it something that i can overcome. And you know what? I DID IT!!!!!!

Letter from OU

In my letter to my high school I would say keep your grades up and do what the teachers tell you. I sort of coasted through high school and now I am paying for it because all my classes seem really hard to me. Just watch out for being lazy because that can really hurt you in the end.

Bystander Bahavior

I have been bystander to a fender bender and I didn't really stop I just kept driving. I had a car wreck one time and I wish someone would've stepped in and asked if i was ok. I think college students don't step up because they are afraid of being denied or they are just scared in general.

Priorities

My priorities before i came to OU were to become a professional athlete. Now they are to get a solid education and get a great job. I think my priorities are continually changing.

Influence

My parents are huge influences to me. They both work really hard at their jobs and are just down to earth good people. Without my parents in my life I wouldn't be the person I am today.

The main thesis statment that the author has is that debate/arguements have a negative effect on out culture. The writer is writing to the American public and he is trying to get them to change the way we are brought up in school by arguing. In the writing the auther uses examples of philosopher Janice Moulton and examples of English professor Peter Elbow.

School Type

I think my school was a middle-class school. They were a few extremely well off people in my school and they made up probably 5%-10% of the school but for the most part the school was basically made up of the middle class, which was close to 60%-80%. Everyone had the pretty much same income through their parents, who all had middle class white collar jobs. Their were a select few who had very little money and that group probably lied second in numbers.
